Michael's Story

Thank you so much for giving us such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay on our journey!

Our son Michael was born with a rare disease called Barth Syndrome. When we got Michael as foster parents he was 4 months old. Four days after he came into our care we found out he was in heart failure. For three years medication controlled his heart failure until it didn’t…

Michael at UVA Children's Hospital awaiting his heart transplant.

At 3 ½ years old he had to have an external heart pump and be placed on the transplant unit. We were welcomed into The Alyssa House during this trying time. Michael was on the wait list for almost three weeks, his blessing heart came right on time! Praise the Lord.

When he got out of the hospital it was such a relief to bring him “home” to The Alyssa House. We were here for a month after his discharge and when we would pull up in the driveway after his many appointments he would say, “we’re home!”

He flourished here and regained his strength and personality.

Our family got to visit us for Thanksgiving and The Alyssa House provided the food. Some of our family we hadn’t seen in over 2 1/2 months.

I could never express how truly grateful I am for having the privilege to stay here!

God Bless,

Robin Linkous
